The day before I saw a news report about police in Meerut beating up courting couples in Gandhi park. Now there are many things I can say about that, I could start a diatribe about the perils of moral policing or lecture about how law enforcers abuse their power or go on about the psyche of Generation Y. But I won't. Instead, all I would like to say is "Wow! THAT was stupid".

No I am not talking about POLICEWOMEN in a small town like Meerut beating up young couples when clearly police in bigger ones like Mumbai have been reprimanded for such behaviour. No I'm not even talking about publicly carrying out "Operation Majnu" (catchy ain't it?) when clearly and I mean CLEARLY police have better things to do. No sir, I am talking about the big daddy of them all, yes your favourite and mine...actually bringing a camera crew with you to do it!

Yes folks, hold on to your hats now, the elusive and rigorously demanding art of imbecility is not yet lost...

Why are you studying for this technical exam? You should do some course in Computers...that is in demand. Or if you want technical, go for UPSC, you'll get a steady pensionable job. This GATE is difficult, you will never clear it. These and more come at me day in day out! They come at all of us at some time in our life, they cause us to doubt our abilities, our determination, ourselves. Most of us relent...
OK, OK... I'll do the course and get a job as a goddamn coder, or work for the Railways. I don't intend to; because I'm forever reminded of only one thing. Those cousins in the US, those friends at NIIT, those who yielded, those who took the steady jobs, may have more money, but they gave up what we have always valued most, sometimes more than life itself...

So I got drunk again...
No use telling people I'm not going to unless I really mean it I guess. And why should I? My friend told me off, but here's what I think. Till you are 21, you have to listen to your parents, after you're married (say at 27) you have to listen to your wife. So the effective life of an adult male is 27-21 = 6 years; and mine just started!

* People who think Internet Explorer rocks...once again, self explanatory.
* Arranged marriages...it´s like buying grocery.
* Marriages...self explanatory (this is easier than I thought).
* People who vote...they´re stupid.

So Bill Gates says his search is better than Google (Yeah, and Man U will win the Champions League). He also says that Googleś business model will not survive because it is based on advertising revenue, and it does not give anything back to the customer (like market monopoly and third grade software).
He is also hopeful that he can surprise Google with what Microsoft can do (Ha, bloody ha). For a guy who started his business by buying his first operating system from a college kid, heś come a long way - in terms of the complete lack of humility!

Mirror, Mirror on the Wall...

I actually got to reading the "Mumbai Mirror" today... that newspaper is full of absolute crap! At least MidDay doesn't pretend to be anything other than a tabloid. This thing has the airs of "The Times" and reports shit like "BMC shuts tap on mega buildings". That is NOT news, it's shit.
Speaking of shit, Shivaji Park must be full of it by tomorrow, now that the Ambedkar bhakts have come to town and have, as usual, not been given enough "facilities", if you know what I mean.

Personal Diary anyone...

If you keep a personal diary (many of you do, I know...), here's an idea for you.

1. Open a GMail account called yourname.journal or yourname.diary, if you want a GMail invite, mail me.

2. Send a mail to yourself, it's body containing your first journal entry.

3. Open the mail which is now in your Inbox.

4. Hit Reply and delete the original mail content.

5. Now write your second journal entry, the two entries will stack up like a pack of cards, showing you precisely when you made them.

6. So there you have it, no software required, just an internet connection and you have your secure web journal, which only YOU can read.
